Mr Dave Edwards
Dave has a lifelong interest in astronomy, telescopes and optics. As well as gaining degrees in physics from St Andrews and Oxford he has worked on the engineering of large astronomical telescopes and other advanced optical systems.
Working for the Open University, Dave has written materials for S104 Exploring Science, S282 Astronomy and S194 Introducing Astronomy. He has tutored thousands of OU students and has been a Study Adviser on almost every presentation of the astronomy Science Short Modules. He also has a long history of tutoring astronomy residentials in Mallorca.
At present Dave is contributing to developing the OU’s Open Educational Resources and promoting their use in the school curriculum.
Mr Chris Barrett
Chris has over 30 years of experience of many areas of science and technology, having worked in microwave engineering, High Temperature Superconductivity, chemical spectroscopy, and medical diagnostics, and often developing innovative scientific instruments.
Since 2003 Chris has worked as an Associate Lecturer for the Open University, teaching on a wide range of courses, including S104 Exploring Science, S194 Introducing Astronomy, S282 Astronomy, and S283 Planetary Science and the Search for Life. He has also taught on many OU residential schools, including SXR208 Observing the Universe, based at OAM, Mallorca.
As well as developing materials for Open University courses, he has also co-authored a text book for A level Physics (“Physics On a Plate”), which explores topics in physics through food and cooking. Since 2013 Chris has worked as an educational consultant as part of Great Central Consulting.
